FAQ

Hi folks, Chris here with our new Frequently Asked Questions page to help you out with our most common queries. If you can't find what you're looking for feel free to contact me for any information you need.

Q: How much are lessons?
A: All information can be found on our prices page. Remember that the first lesson is free!

Q: Can you teach someone as young as 5?
A: At Dundee Drum Academy, I've taught dozens of pre-school pupils, the youngest actually being 3! Young children can learn to play musical instruments extraordinarily well, and all of the little ones I've taught have taken not just to playing the drums, but also to reading the music with relative ease. I would usually recommend the twenty minute option for very young children as attention spans may not last very long at this age!

Q: Is Dundee Drum Academy just for children?
A: Absolutely not. Although a large percentage of pupils are children or teenagers, I also teach older pupils which have included doctors, businessmen, school teachers and retired people. It's ideal to start learning an instrument when you are a child, but it is never too late to start.

Q: Do you have a disclosure?
A: Yes. I am fully disclosed with Disclosure Scotland and also now a member of the PVG Scheme. My most previous certificate is clearly hanging up at the drum school, dated May 2013. Never by shy about asking a private tutor about disclosures. Dundee Drum Academy also has a Child Protection Policy, which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Q: Where is Dundee Drum Academy?
A: Dundee Drum Academy is based at 83 Strathmartine Road. Postcode DD3 7RY.

Q: When are you open?
A: Dundee Drum Academy doesn't have any official opening and closing times, but I am in every day. I currently teach Mon-Fri evenings and throughout the day on Saturday. To organise a time it's best just to let me know when you are available and I will work out a time that best suits you. Check out the new Available Lesson Slots page to see what I currently have available.

Q: What will I learn in lessons?
A: Lessons are catered to exactly what you want to learn, but I do insist on teaching how to read notation (It's easy and really valuable!). Check out the Why Choose Dundee Drum Academy page for more information.

Q: What qualifications do you have?
A: I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from the University of Highlands and Islands, and LTCL in Instrumental Teaching from Trinity College London and a Grade 8 with Distinction in Drum Kit which are on display at the drum school.
