African Drumming Workshops

Workshops in Dundee for schools, children and adults

Dundee Drum Academy now offers group African drumming workshops, facilitated by experienced African drumming instructor Chris Morris. Chris has extensive experience working with groups of all ages, including those with disabilities. He holds an Licentiate of Trinity College London in instrumental teaching alongside a Bachelor of Arts in music performance. Chris is also a member of the PVG Scheme and can provide a certificate on request.

African drumming provides a fun and educational workshop activity for a variety of settings. In these sessions, participants will learn basic African rhythms and perform popular songs together. They will also learn some of the amazing history behind these rhythms, as each one of them has a very interesting story to be told.

Participants will use mainly use the traditional African djembe drum. Smaller percussion instruments such as maracas, shakers, and tambourines are also available, and work particularly well for younger children and those with disabilities.

A typical workshop will last for one hour and we can accommodate up to fifteen participants at once. If you are expecting more than this in a group please get   in touch to discuss practicality. Discount is available for multiple/block bookings, feel free to ask about this!

One of the great things about African drumming is that it is universally enjoyed by children and adults, boys and girls. It provides an accessible musical activity even for those who have no musical background.
We are based in Dundee, but if you are further away we could possibly travel to you - just get in touch to ask!
